After 22 months of constant development, The Debian Project is pleased to announce the official release of Lenny (Debian GNU/Linux version 5.0) and SevenL is right there beside them, ready to support fans of Debian world-wide.  As of February 20th, 2009, we will be offering Debian Lenny dedicated server hosting.  Lenny will now be the primary Debian installation on all new server orders.

Two of the primary factors we considered when selecting Lenny as our default Debian for customer’s  dedicated servers are the increased security features present and the updated web applications.

According to The Debian Project: “Further improvements in system security include the installation of available security updates before the first reboot by the Debian Installer, the reduction of setuid root binaries and open ports in the standard installation, and the use of GCC hardening features in the builds of several security-critical packages. Various applications have specific improvements, too. PHP for example is now built with the Suhosin hardening patch”

Updated Web Applications: Updates for server environments are Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Perl, PHP, Asterisk, Nagios and the Xen Hypervisor for virtualization.  These updates make Lenny the best Debian server environment yet.
