The Most Affordable VPS Hosting

So where does one go to find the most affordable VPS? Well, unfortunately, it’s just not that simple. Don’t start off by looking at the price – start by knowing your requirements.

Some of the things to consider when you’re looking for a VPS are:

- Disk
How much disk space you will need. Keep in mind that some hosting providers don’t include the base operating system in your disk space allotment while others do. You’ll need enough room to fit your website(s), emails, possibly ftp space, databases etc. Just make sure you know all the services you will be running on the server before hand. It’ll make it a lot easier to determine how much disk space you’ll need

- RAM, Memory
You now have some idea of how much disk space you’ll be using and a pretty decent idea of what software and services you’ll be running on the VPS. You will now need to determine how much memory each of those will use once the system is running. You can often get an idea if you visit the software vendor’s website and look under the system requirements area. Add all that up and, as a general rule, multiply that by 1.25, just to be sure there’s a bit extra. Most vendors will add a bit extra into their system requirements so in the end you’ll have about double the ram that is necessary. This will ensure smooth sailing if your server becomes busy.

- Bandwidth/Transfer
Most providers will list your bandwidth in one of two ways, though there are others. Most common are either a monthly allotment of traffic. For example 2,000GB/month. The other is unmetered bandwidth. Rather than giving you a maximum limit on how much traffic you can do, your server has a set limit on the speed your data can be transmitted. There’s no right or wrong way… it depends on your needs.

Now you should have some kind of idea of the specifications of your Virtual Private Server. It’s time to start looking.
